Perspiration is the body’s thermoregulation mechanism
For most people, sweating is an unpleasant and sensitive topic. However, it is a completely natural process of the body and essential for our survival. The fluid secretion of the sweat glands regulates the body’s water balance, equalises the temperature and eliminates metabolic waste products. At high temperatures in the summer, during physical exertion and also in the case of a fever, the body’s perspiration cools the skin and therefore serves to protect it against overheating.
However, this ingenious protection system has a negative side effect – unpleasant body odour. This is caused by decomposition products of the body’s own building blocks such as amino acids or fatty acids, which are present in sweat. These substances are broken down by bacteria that are naturally found on the surface of our skin. These bacteria are also referred to as skin flora or skin microbiome. The latter is a plant-based compound. The added extra of the formulation is glycerine, so that the care of the sensitive underarm skin is not neglected.
