An absolute nightmare … you invest a lot of time, heart and soul in styling your hair and you hardly set one foot in front of the door before your hairstyle already looks flat and lacks vitality. A situation like this literally makes you want to tear your hair out!
Anyone who has fine or thin hair – and that accounts for more than a third of all women – is familiar with the problem. As the hair thickness, density and vitality are lower, high-volume looks in particular collapse more quickly. Unsurprisingly, 56 percent of the female population would like to have fuller hair. This does not only include women with thin and or fine hair by any means, as a healthy and lush head of hair has always been regarded as one of the main beauty criteria, as the results of a representative survey reveal. More than half of the women surveyed said that a good hairstyle also has a major effect on their general well-being. 43 percent even think that the right hair styling also makes them feel more self-confident.
We humans have in general always been fascinated by aesthetics, and beautiful, full hair is a clear gauge of attractiveness. This is already evident from images from ancient times (800 B.C. to 500 A.D.) or even older works of art – they show people from the dawn of time with full, well-groomed and sometimes ornamented hair. Having a voluminous head of hair has therefore been considered a status symbol for centuries – if not millennia – and plays an important role in how we are perceived by our counterparts. In more recent eras, even famous writers have devoted themselves to this topic. Just think of “Rapunzel”, the main character in one of the most famous fairy tales written by the Brothers Grimm in 1812. Golden blonde, shiny hair, 20 metres in length. Artfully braided into a plait and strong enough so that the young prince could use it to climb up the tower. She admittedly must have had a very healthy scalp to support his weight. In spite of this, even today “Rapunzel” embodies the ideal of a head of healthy, strong, voluminous hair, which is at the top of the wish list for many of us. However, not everyone is naturally blessed with a full head of hair that you can plait into strong braids.
The texture of our hair is primarily genetically determined and therefore already programmed when we are born. But what is the actual difference between fine and normal hair? In specific terms, a tiny difference of about three tenths of a millimetre in diameter per hair fibre. Not visible to the naked eye, of course, but considering that each person has an average of 100,000 hairs on their head, this difference naturally has a tremendous effect on the overall volume.
A real “WOW” volume effect!

How do I care for weak hair?
Dos and don’ts for fine and weak hair
DOS
- Always rinse out the shampoo and mask thoroughly, as residues weigh down the hair and also make it look greasy
- The right cut shows off fine hair to its best advantage – blunt cuts, for example, are ideal
- Regular trimming keeps fine hair looking well-groomed and adds volume
- Pretty hair accessories such as hairbands, slides or clips are attractive features and distract from any lack of volume
DON`TS
- Cuts or hairstyles that need a lot of volume often don’t hold well with fine hair. Braided and also ponytail hairstyles are a great alternative.
- Too frequent or intensive brushing makes fine hair “fly” faster – untangling it with your hands is often enough.
- Straightened thin hair often looks even sparser and the heat of the straightening iron makes the ends dry and brittle. Low-heat blow-drying, for example over a round brush or over the head, on the other hand, creates the effect of more fullness
